Why this matters

  1. Phones embed GPS coordinates, device model, and timestamps in every photo (EXIF).
  2. Posting an original photo can expose your home address, daily routine, and hardware.
  3. Most "free EXIF removers" upload your photos to their servers — the very thing you're trying to avoid — or re-compress the image and quietly degrade it.
  4. MetaWipe removes the metadata bytes from the file itself. Your pixels are untouched, byte for byte.

Questions

Does anything leave my device?

No. There is no server. Open this page, disconnect from the internet, and it still works — that's the proof. There are no analytics and no cookies either.

Is the image quality affected?

No. Tools that use canvas re-encoding decompress and recompress your photo, losing quality every time. MetaWipe parses the file format and removes only the metadata segments (EXIF, XMP, IPTC, comments). The compressed image data is copied byte for byte.

What exactly is removed?

JPEG: EXIF/XMP (APP1), IPTC (APP13) and comment segments — including GPS. PNG: tEXt, zTXt, iTXt, eXIf and tIME chunks. Color profiles (ICC) are kept so your photo looks identical everywhere.

What about HEIC, WebP, or video?

On the roadmap. Today: JPEG and PNG, done properly.
